Patrick's Web Site- Evolution 2 For Sega Dreamcast
This is flat out a typical RPG. I have not played many, but I know a good one when I see one. But it does have its faults. But first, the good stuff. The graphics are spectacular. The voices, though in Japanese, are very well done. The music is okay, and the sounds are typical. But the real good stuff is in the character development. This is an Experience RPG, which means that when you defeat the baddies, you earn experience. You choose abilities and gain levels with your experience. Evolution 2 comes complete with many different items, including plenty of equipment. Most of the battles are pretty much the same thing; 1-4 baddies attack you. There is some tactical skill involved, so you CAN make bad decisions. And you also have special Abilities, which are attacks, or in the case of Linear healing abilities. The graphics, especially in battle, are about as good as they can get. The attacks are purty, and the bosses are can be of different difficulties, depending on how good you are and how high your level is. So Evolution 2 is basically your typical RPG with better voices, graphics, and character development.
Graphics: 9 Good where it's neccesary, but it could be better in the towns and dungeons.
Gameplay: 8.5 Again, it could be better. But it delivers a decent performance.
Replay Value: 6 Except for the random dungeon and the nice-looking battles, there's nothing here.
Music/Sound: 8 Great voices and decent music/sound.
Average: 7.9 An above average RPG, can hold you over for Phantasy Star Online, Skies of Arcadia, and Grandia 2.
