Patrick's Web Site- NFL2K1 For Dreamcast:

NFL2K was considered by many the best football game ever made. NFL2K1 is a completely different game. The control system, the penalties, creating players, teams, and plays are all handled well. The graphics are also spectacular. The only thing that's annoying is that you can't adjust interceptions and fumbles. But otherwise, there is a perfect game. When lpaying two-player, you see both of your plays in relation to one another. In other words, it's easy to find an open reciever. You can, however confuse your oponent by holding A and then going to a different play.

Each mode is completely different, and will enhance your football experience. I've described them individually, though I haven't played each one throughly. Custom: Creating players and teams are easy and very user-friendly. When creating players, there is no infinite number of attribute points and you can personalize everthing about yourself. Creating a unique play, however is quite difficult indeed. Creating a new team is much easier than in other games. Tutorial: Perfectly executed. As you progress in the game, you learn new things that were not easily done in Madden, if done at all. Tourney, Franchise, Season, and Playoff: These are executed perfectly, just like in most other sports games out there. Nothing really special here. Fantasy: Create your own teams temporarily to see how badly you can beat or get beaten by a team. Practice: Hone your skills without the pressure of a full game. Online: I've never completed an online game because of the lag on my non-Sega.net ISP. So I can't really comment, though I've heard it's very hit or miss.

The replays, substitutions, audibles, and stats are essential to a great football game. NFL2K1 delivers. Replays are easy to play back and use great angles, slow-mo, and fast forward. The only downside is that you can't save your best work. Substitutions are also done very well. You can't help but enjoy this specacular game from Sega Sports.

Graphics: 10 Perfect! Especially in replays, where you can adjust the zooming. Plenty of character animations, and you can tell.

Gameplay: 9 Very small learning curve and excellent replay value. If you could save replays, then this would be a rounded-up 10.

Replay Value: 10 Also perfect. Up to 8 players, via the Internet. Plus season, franchise, customize, and all the other game modes that are different and contribute to a lot of logged hours on NFL2K1.

Music/Sound: 9 A few musics, that eventually get annoying after a few hours, if you listen to 'em for that long. They are good otherwise, however. Perfect sounds and vocals.

Overall: 9.5 Easily one of the best football games ever made. Average in the graphics and Internet, and there is simply no competetion. Of course, there is some room for improvement, especially in lag and music.
